Classical Music Program presented by students of Dr Sisirkana Dhar Choudhury
(disciple of Baba Ali Akbar Khan Sahib)
at the Sangeetaanjali Institute of Music, Fremont.
On 19th of September, eminent Indian classical Music Maestro Dr Sisirkana Dhar Choudhury (fondly known as Didi) organised a tribute in the loving memory of her Guruji, the legendary sarod player, Swar Samrat Baba Ali Akbar Khan Sahib (April 14, 1922 – June 18, 2009) at the Fremont Hindu Temple Auditorium, Fremont, California. The program was inaugurated by Ustad Aashish Khan, eldest of Baba's sons, followed by a welcome address by Vijay Singh and Didiji. Eminent classical musician’s including Pandit G.S. Sachdev, Ustad Aashish Khan, Pandit Swapan Choudhuri, Pandit Chitresh Das, Ustad Pranesh Khan and Shri Nachiketa Sharma graced the occasion. Dr. Ardhendu Raha and Prof. Dilip Basu were also among the invited guests of honors. The musical program commenced with a traditional Meera Bai Bhajan in raag Lakshmi ki Bhairavi by Subarna Bhattacharyya, followed by an ensemble of violin, dilruba, tabla and voice in raag Loom by students of Didiji, a thumri in raag Piloo by Priti Chitale, instrumental performances of raag Patdeep by Raginder Singh Momi on the violin and raag Multani by Vikram Shrowty on the classical guitar, and concluded with perfomances by guest artists Ustad Aashish Khan, Ustad Pranesh Khan and Shri Nachiketa Sharma.
